Portland Hurling Club Tournament
On Saturday, October 17th we hosted a tournament with teams from Montreal, QC and Concord, NH. It was a day of friendly matches among young teams. Click here for a full write-up and photo.
NACB Tournament
The Portland Hurling Club participated in the NACB tournament September 4th-6th at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, MA. We lost our "C" division quarterfinal game to Denver 3-12 (21) to 1-9 (12). We got off to a slow start and found ourselves down by 2 goals and 1 point in the first few minutes of the match. The team fought back in the second half and and made it competetive. We were down by only 1 goal and a few points before giving up another goal late in the game. It was a disappointing loss, as we had hoped to play better, but the team continues to improve.
The following day scrimmages were arranged with teams from Indianapolis, Akron, and Concord, NH. It was a good time and an opportunity to participate in more good hurling. Thanks to all teams who participated.
Intrasquad Games
We played 3 intrasquad games in Scarborough in July and August. They were great opportunities for new players to get out and experience a game setting. The games were a lot of fun, and many of our new players showed great promise.
Marauders Win!
On May 30th Portland Hurling Club avenged its earlier loss to the Barley House Wolves, 8-3 (27) to 3-10 (19). Our players showed much improvement in a hard-fought game. Way to go Marauders!
Thanks to the Barley House Wolves for making the trip from Concord, NH. They played a good game--perhaps we got a few more fortunate breaks than they did.
Afterwards, both teams gathered to celebrate...
